With the long weekend coming up, you may be thinking about some places that you can visit in and around Sydney. Whether you are looking for something in the city, or if you are looking to venture out a bit further out, we have got you covered.

Bondi Beach

Get ready to dip your toes into the sweeping white sands and dive into the waves at Australia’s most famous beach! Bondi Beach can be the perfect way to spend the day out. Laying down on the sand to enjoy the sunshine, diving in for a swim between the red and yellow flags or going surfing are just a few things that you can do at Bondi Beach. With glorious weather expected over the long weekend, you can be sure that the beach will be buzzing with people from sunrise to sunset.

Bondi Beach is about a 20-minute drive from our campus. If you are looking to catch public transport, you will need to catch the bus from Museum Station (Liverpool Street, Stand A, Bus Route 333 towards North Bondi) and this journey will take approximately 37 minutes.

If you are looking for a quieter, sun-soaked beach day, then make sure to head on over to Shelly Beach in Manly. You may see snorkellers and scuba divers enjoying the water along with the marine life. There is also a bush track nearby just in case you have the desire to go for a walk.

To get to Shelly Beach, it will take approximately 45 minutes if you drive there. If you are catching public transport from campus, it will take just over an hour. You will need to catch the train from Museum Station to Wynyard Station, then you will need to hop on bus 173X towards Warringah Mall before switching to bus 141 towards Manly. It is then a 20-minute walk to Shelly Beach once you get off the bus at Ivanhoe Park, Sydney Road.

Luna Park

Are you looking for an amusement park for some fun? Then Luna Park could be the place for you. As soon as you arrive at Luna Park, you will be met by the iconic grinning face. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey. Once you enter the park, you will hear so much laughter, screams and music that you will think that you have been transported to the world of old. There are plenty of rides, shows and food at Luna Park so that the fun never stops.

To get to Luna Park from campus, you will need to walk to Town Hall Station which will take about 5 minutes. You will then need to catch the train to Milsons Point Station, which is about a 6-minute train ride, followed by a 5-minute walk to Luna Park.

Zoos

There are a few zoos in and around Sydney which you can visit, and each one is amazing. Taronga Zoo is one of Sydney’s most famous attractions and is home to over 4,000 animals and native Australian wildlife. There will be shows and keeper talks throughout the day, and you will also get access to Sky Safari which is Sydney’s only cable car.

Sydney Zoo is Australia’s most advanced zoo and is located in the heart of Western Sydney. The zoo has advanced technology and innovation to improve animal welfare and boost the engagement of visitors. There are over 4,000 animals to see, along with Australia’s largest Reptile and Nocturnal House and an aquarium.

From campus, Taronga Zoo is a 22-minute drive. If you are looking to catch public transport, then you will need to walk for 10 minutes to QVB on York Street (Stand D) and then catch Bus Route 100 towards Taronga Zoo, which will take approximately 30 minutes.

If you are looking to venture out to Western Sydney to visit Sydney Zoo, then it is a 45-minute drive from campus. For public transport, the journey will take between 90 minutes to 2 hours. There are alternative routes available, and we would recommend visiting the Transport for NSW website to plan your trip.  

Bombo Headland

If you are interested in going on a road trip, then would recommend visiting Bombo Headland. It is not a place that many people are aware of, so it counts as a hidden gem, and it is an absolutely stunning place to visit. The rock formations here are a sight to behold and it is a great place to take magnificent pictures. Other popular destinations like Shellharbour and Kiama are a short drive from Bombo Headland and are wonderful places to visit during your road trip.

Bombo Headland is approximately a 2-hour drive from campus. It is a 3-hour journey by public transport, where you will need to catch a train from Museum Station before switching trains at Wolli Creek and then heading down to Bombo Station.
